Final evaluation

These 11 weeks have been one of the best 11 weeks I have attended class; I have experienced both wonderful classroom environments as well as the bad ones. This class was straight to the point and I knew what was expected of me; I just had to make the effort. Through all the class lectures I have learned about the world of advertising as well as the world around me. The world around all of us is a big advertisement itself, what we are what, what we eat is an advertisement. Through this advertising project I have learned that being creative is a key to being successful. And that doesn’t mean only in advertising; being in this class showed me that I need to think out of the box and show people something new while showing them the same brand identity as well as keeping up with brand standards. Not everyone will be in tuned with the brand or stay loyal but to keep it that way I need to entertain them as well as tell, or rather show why they need it. In my field of fashion things always change and trends remerge or reinvent themselves it is my job to tune in to the times and show consumers why they need to keep up with the trend and to do this I need to start thinking out of the box. With that in mind I feel I got what I needed out of the class and learnt a lot not only through reading chapters but as well as seeing the creative process in class and out of class;I have been in class every day and have been keeping up with my tweets and blog post

Week 8 BOC: Progress on Final Project.

I really gave it a lot of thought on what I should do for my project. I am going to keep with the same slogan of “everyone can be an artist”, because while I was doing my nails I honestly thought I was an artist. But I also thought of revamping it a bit; the museum idea is good but I would want to change up the demographic to just an all male and one female cast. I feel that if I have a variety of people there it kind of looses the appeal of nail polish. When a girl wears nail polish it is because they want the opposite sex to notice them. And let’s face it some guys do like girls with nice hands so if I change it up to all guys it will give the nail polish some sex appeal.
For the nail polish itself I really have a been stuck with either going with something with glitter or a solid color that’s so bold you can see it from a mile away, something like a bright blue or a crimson red.  Each of OPI’s nail products have a name so I kind of want to tie that in but I’m not sure how. I was thinking about tying it in with her clothing but then again that really wouldn’t make sense. So I didn’t go with that idea, but with the clothing I did think about what the girl is going to wear. She’s in a museum so she has to look somewhat sophisticated but not overly dressed, so a mini black dress if I go with a brighter color, with minimal accessories;  but if I go with a darker color I would think about what color would contrast to like a dark navy blue. I want the color and the cleanliness to be see with her hands so that you can see the nail polish doesn’t leave any stray marks and it looks perfect. Just like a painting on the wall she’s looking at. So far I just want everything around the model to be simple but her nail polish to be extravagant.

Voice

Fashion never sleeps; is one probably the best quote I can come up with that describes my life. I eat, breath, live fashion; fashion is passion, passion makes life worth living.  As a Visual stylist I can’t think of myself, I’m not everyone in this world after all; I can’t say I make my own culture. I’m just a simple stylist trying to make a living while playing dress up with life size dolls. I have to see the world as an open book and a display window as an empty canvas. I start to think about other people’s lives, their music, and their culture and wonder what goes through their head when they walk up to a window. To me a true understanding of the world around you is one the key points to understand the fashion world. What people want, what people need, and how you’re going to portray the latest fashion is what’s going to drive a business to success. Everyone is different, that’s what makes fashion so exciting. You never know what kind of reaction you’re going to get. People either like it or don’t like it. Seeing people have different reactions to a certain piece has made this industry a bit comical, but what makes it even better is when anyone comes up to me with questions; “What should I wear with this?” “Is that color really in style these days?” “How do I wear this?” It makes me happy knowing I put a garment on a mannequin and then put it in the hands of the next fashionista. Once they walk out of the store they’ll take that piece and fit it to their personality. Styling a window display can only do so much at the end of the day but once a customer walk out those doors, the consumer themselves them become the fashion culture I live today.
